After a year and a half of pandemic closure, we are happy to announce that the OAEC site will be reopening to welcome Permaculture Design students again this fall!
Last year, we were forced to pivot our flagship Permaculture Design Certification to an online format. We synthesized and condensed 25 years of experience working on the land and practicing Resilient Community Design into accessible online material that is articulated, rigorous, and well referenced. This fall, we are excited to offer a new “hybrid” format that is the best of both worlds – self-paced online foundational lessons that prepare students for a 7-day hands-on skills and design intensive at our renowned OAEC permaculture site.
Fall Session 1: November 13 – 20, 2021 (online prep starts Oct 18)
Fall Session 2: December 4 – 11, 2021 (online prep starts Nov 8)
We truly believe that this PDC 2.0 class will be our best offering yet! The online portion of the course is much more than a basic introduction to the discipline – it is a treasure trove of resources, additional readings, and ideas that students can return to again and again, long after the course ends. Our hope is that the one-week residential version will be more accessible for working folks, without sacrificing any of the rigor or depth of our previous 2-week version. We couldn’t be more thrilled to again host students here at the site and offer the opportunity to interact with the wide array of integrated systems in action – grey water, roof water catchment, composting toilets, erosion control and storm water management, seed bank, food forests and biointensive gardens, Wildlands tending and restoration, natural building, etc. Like in years past, students will practice the permaculture design methodology by creating a “public permaculture” design for a local community group.
Most of us live in this hybrid world – we work with our bodies side-by-side with real live humans, while at the same time drawing information from online sources. Join us this fall and experience OAEC’s PDC 2.0!
