Meeting Facilities

  • Exclusive use of our indoor meeting room, which includes: Audio-visual equipment including a projector, large screen, and speakers.
  • Unrestricted WiFi.
  • Cork board on the long walls.
  • 5ft. x 4ft. chalkboard.
  • Extensive office supplies.
  • Kitchenette for coffee, tea, and snacks.
  • Heating by passive solar and a wood stove.
  • Deck with outdoor meeting tables.
  • Bathroom located right around the corner.
  • A diverse array of outdoor meeting facilities including a shaded pavilion in our North Garden, a floating, round dock on our pond, our expansive work and event barn, and our dining room.




  • Our Guest Houses include:
    • Garden View Guest House, with 3 private-entrance bedrooms with two twin-sized beds in each.
    • Fern Rock Guest House, with 3 private-entrance bedrooms with two twin-sized beds in each.
    • The Studio Guest House, with two guest rooms on the lower level, one with a full-sized bed and the other with two twin-sized beds, and a full-sized bedroom called the Seed Loft on the upper level.
    • 2 Yurt Guest Houses, each with 4 bunk beds (8 beds total per Yurt).
    • Bamboo Guest House, a studio with a kitchenette, private bath and a queen-sized bed. This Guest House is available occasionally by special request. Please inquire with OAEC staff.
  • gardenview2Each Guest House has its own, shared bathroom with toilets and showers.
  • We provide all towels and bedding (pillows, sheets, and blankets).
  • Biodegradable, high-quality soap, shampoo, and conditioner in all of our Guest House bathrooms.
  • All Guest Houses have unrestricted WiFi.
  • Any set of twin beds can be made into one king-sized bed upon request.
  • By prior arrangement, guests may camp in our 70-acre Wildlands Preserve during the dry months or sleep offsite, but the price is the same as those staying in our guest housing buildings. Campers must provide their own tent and equipment. To inquire about camping for group retreats, please contact the OAEC office.

Meals, Kitchen, and Dining Area

  • We provide three meals a day featuring delicious and plentiful vegetarian dishes prepared by our professional chefs using fresh, organic produce from our gardens and local farms.
  • With advance notice, we can accommodate vegan, gluten-free, and dairy-free diets. However, we cannot accommodate the many other individual food preferences. Those with food allergies should notify us immediately so that we may accommodate and plan meals accordingly.
  • OAEC has a large indoor dining room, and guests also enjoy eating on our outside tables in our typically beautiful weather.
  • Adjacent to the Kitchen are grills and an outdoor brick wood-fired pizza oven (we can arrange wood-fired pizza parties by advance request and for an additional fee).
  • Meals are generally served at the following times – Breakfast at 7:30, Lunch at 12:30, and Dinner at 6:30. We can make slight adjustments to meal times by advance request.
  • We provide coffee and a wide variety of teas.
  • We do not serve alcohol with our meals, but you are welcome to bring it. Beer, wine, and spirits can be purchased at the local markets close-by in the town of Occidental.

  • Hot tub, sauna, bathhouse, and swimming pond, available seasonally.
  • Trails through our gardens and wildlands for walks.
  • Extensive ecology library in our meeting room.
  • Fire circle in front of the kitchen – with complementary smores fixins’.

  • For an additional fee, we can work with your group to design custom sessions lead by OAEC’s core staff for your retreat, including:
    • Permaculture and resilient community design workshops.
    • Group decision-making and facilitation workshops.
    • Wildlands restoration, bio-intensive gardening, and permaculture projects.
    • We can provide excellent, professional meeting and/or strategic planning facilitation for your group.
  • With advance notice, we offer complimentary tours.

Group Size

  • Maximum group size is 30 participants.
  • Minimum group size is 16 participants (you can bring less than 16, but we charge for a minimum of 16).

  • Minimum two-night stay.

  • firesideWe are unable to host weddings, parties, or personal or family retreats.
  • We are not open to proposals to teach courses at OAEC. We do work with groups that offer courses to their own public, but the group must handle its own outreach, registration and pre-course organizing.
  • No pets please! Because of the sensitive environment, diverse wildlife and native poison oak, we have a no-pet policy, except for leashed service dogs that meet the ADA definition of a service dog.

Surrounding Area

  • Just half a mile down the hill from OAEC is the town of Occidental. Snacks, alcoholic beverages, and other sundries can be purchased at one of two markets, and there are many gift shops.
  • There are several great restaurants and bars in Occidental and many more in the surrounding west Sonoma County area.
  • We are a roughly 15 minute drive from the ocean. Coleman Valley Rd., upon which we’re located, takes you right to the coast and is regularly voted the most scenic drive in Sonoma County.
