As we celebrate OAEC’s 30 years, we think back to 2009 when the WATER Institute was scoffed at for having the audacity to suggest that beaver, then considered a ‘nuisance,’ could help restore degraded watersheds and endangered species in California. Now, in 2024, beaver have fully hit the mainstream and become the official climate change mitigation mascot! While there is still so much to be done, it’s safe to say that we’re winning the 15-year campaign to Bring Back the Beaver, and we hope to inspire other social and environmental causes to follow our road map for community organizing from ridgeline to river to reef. Visit our new interactive storymap and scroll your way through the story of how we won…
The story of the beaver campaign is just a small part of our whole new beaver portal, which is now live! Click here for a treasure trove of resources and all things beaver.
