New Media from Counterstream

Counterstream Media, a project fiscally sponsored by OAEC, has launched a couple of incredible new projects. If you’re in the Bay Area, you may have caught Counterstream Co-Founder and Director Shilpi Chhotray on NBC Bay Area and ABC7 News talking about the launch of a new podcast she is hosting for The Nation called A People’s Climate.

In Shilpi’s words, “Each episode brings our listeners into conversation with powerful movement organizers and community leaders from the frontlines who refuse to let extractive systems define the future. Together, we’ll examine the erosion of democracy, the unchecked power of industry, and the cultural survival strategies that communities have carried through generations.” Watch the trailer and subscribe where you get your podcasts. New episodes every Saturday.

Power in the Storm: Disaster Relief Toolkit

And on August 29, 2025 (the twentieth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina), Counterstream and the NAACP Center for Environmental and Climate Justice launched a powerful new toolkit designed to help guide leaders at every level — local, state, and federal — toward equity-driven disaster preparedness and climate resilience. As federal resources, including those from FEMA, are shrinking, the scale of disasters grows, leaving many Black, Latine, Indigenous, and other frontline communities at disproportionate risk of catastrophic harm. The Power in the Storm toolkit is designed to meet this moment, with the knowledge, strategies, and organizing tools needed to build resilience, demand equity in disaster response, and hold all levels of government accountable.
