In these times, OAEC continues to embody David Orr’s assertion that “hope is a verb with its sleeves rolled up,” advancing practical solutions at the personal and community scale that address pressing environmental, social and economic issues.
We invite you to read the 2021 Update to learn about all that we have accomplished this year, including work in our Wildlands Program to build and model local wildfire resiliency; how OAEC is adapting our gardening, landscaping and other water use in the face of increasing drought conditions; updates on our new Fiscally Sponsored Projects; the latest on our WATER Institute’s Beaver Campaign; and news on how OAEC was able to creatively shift our programs and operations during the pandemic.
We also want to share that, after our beloved old barn burned down last year, our new timber frame barn is on its way up! The big posts, beams and rafters are in, built with gorgeous recycled wood and old-school mortise and tenon joints. Looking ahead to 2022, we are booking lots of retreats for amazing environmental and social justice organizations! Unable to meet in person these past 18 months, these diverse alliances and organizations are as eager to come back to OAEC as we are to host and collaborate with them. We have taken great care to prepare our site and create sensible protocols for the health and safety of our guests and staff, especially the most vulnerable, as we all continue to navigate Covid-19.
We are very excited to continue and grow all of this work, and we deeply appreciate your continued friendship and support! If you feel moved to make a year-end contribution to OAEC’s work, please click below.
