OAEC supports diverse communities to design their own regenerative systems at the regional and local scale.
Our cookbook is a collection of inventive recipes inspired by seasonal eating from our biodiverse Mother Garden, orchards and Wildlands Preserve.
Experience the Occidental Arts & Ecology Center through a video tour and beautiful photographs of our Guest Houses, Meeting Room, Bathhouse, Kitchen & Dining Room, Mother Garden and more.
Our 100% Certified Organic plant nursery specializes in open-pollinated perennials including edible landscaping plants, rare and endangered food crops, drought tolerant ornamentals and habitat plants - all tested in our onsite gardens and appropriate for our bioregion.
OAEC offers the longest consistently running two-week Permaculture Design Certification course in the West. Immerse yourself in information, ideas and inspiration on how to design sustainable, regenerative systems in balance with your home ecosystem.
Our School Garden Teacher Training supports schools to integrate the school garden into multiple subject areas using place-based, experiential learning.
We love your support at our Garden Volunteer Days, Plants Sales and Chautauqua performances!
Sink your hands into our beautiful, rich soil and learn from the diversity of plant life in our 40-year-old Mother Garden. You can come for part or all of the day. We are happy to have your helping hands for as long as you can participate.
Volunteer lunch: Our chefs create an organic, vegetarian meal harvested from our gardens at 12:30pm. Enjoy the rewards of a horticulturalist’s day’s work!
What to bring: We suggest a hat, sunscreen, extra layers or rain gear depending on season, sturdy shoes and water bottle.
To be considered for a garden internship, you must attend at least one Garden Volunteer Day at OAEC. Please introduce yourself to the garden staff and let them know you are applying.
Without the support of our wider community, OAEC’s work would not be possible.
From parking to concessions to point-of-sale, our wonderful volunteers allow us to spread plant biodiversity at our Plant Sales & Nursery, and promote local entertainment and education through our performances.
We also occasionally have need for professionally skilled and self-motivated volunteers for special projects in our administration department. Have skills and time to donate? Reach out to the OAEC office.
