NOW HIRING PREP COOKS AND CLEANERS FOR UPCOMING SEASON
The Occidental Arts & Ecology Center, happily, will be reopening for retreats and courses on October 1, 2021 and is hiring prep cooks and cleaning staff to begin booking for reopening. We operate a vegetarian kitchen (with occasional meat served by request) and the prep cooks provide support & collaboration with our various chefs providing meals to our guests, staff and residential community. We are seeking folks with cooking/prep experience or culinary training for prep positions.
Early morning, evening and weekend shifts are required. Minimum commitment of signing up for 6 shifts per month.
- Willingness and enthusiasm in performing all aspects of the job, including food prep, dishwashing, clean-up, and restocking.
Reliability, prompt arrival to work, and time management at task are a must.
Ability to work safely and efficiently, and remain calm and focused in a fast-paced, team environment.
Regular access and responsiveness via email and punctuality in submitting schedule confirmation.
Skill and familiarity with basic cooking and baking techniques, tools, and terms.
Attentiveness to detail, cleanliness, and hygiene are key.
Ability to comfortably and safely lift 40 pounds.
Strong social skills including interacting with residents, guests, and other kitchen staff in a professional, cooperative, friendly, and helpful manner.
At this time, all OAEC staff, including prep cooks and cleaners, are required to be vaccinated against Covid 19.
These positions are at-will and are booked per event, retreat or course, so weekly hours will vary. Preference will be given to applicants who are willing to do both prep cook and kitchen cleaning shifts.
Compensation: Starting pay for Prep Cooks & Cleaners is $21.00/hour.
