Summer Session 1

Self-paced Online Learning: May 26 - June 23

4 weeks, approximately 4 hours of course material per week. Optional online study sessions on Thursdays 5pm-7pm.

Orientation Meeting on Thursday May 26, 2022 from 5-7 pm via Zoom

Through a series of videos, interactive lessons, and weekly study sessions, students will gain a foundational understanding of earth systems, the principals of permaculture, and basic design methodology. This material will lay the important conceptual groundwork needed for the hands-on design training. 

Hands-on Training at OAEC: June 25 - July 2

            7-days - Saturday at 12:30 pm through the following Saturday at 12 pm.

The in-person portion of the course will have 2 main goals: to practice hands-on permaculture skills and to undertake a design project. We will use the OAEC site to learn some of the practical applications of permaculture such as conservation hydrology, earthworks, food forests, composting, natural building, renewable energy systems and more. Since we at OAEC practice ‘public permaculture’, the permaculture design project during the course will be on the site of a local community organization’s land-based project.

Cost, Discounts and Cancellation Policy

$1850 is the base cost for individuals, due at the time of registration. Includes lodging and organic, vegetarian meals during the on-site training.

Early-bird discount - $100 off if you register at least 30 days before the start of the course.

Group discounts – $50 off for each person in your team of two or more. Sign up at the group rate and add your teammates' names on your registration form. And yes, you may combine the early bird with the group discount for a total of $150 off each for up to 4 people.

Subsidies for Social-Ecological Justice Movement Groups We have spaces in each course reserved for groups (unfortunately, not individuals) working on land-based projects centered around social, racial, gender and ecological justice, especially by BIPOC-led organizations. If you are part of one of our partner community groups, please contact the OAEC staff person who you work with directly. Otherwise, inquire at .
