OAEC’s School Garden Teacher Training and Support Program at our 80-acre site in western Sonoma County has been instrumental in establishing curriculum-based school gardens and ecological literacy programs in 225 schools, including 170 in the greater Bay Area.  Since 1997, OAEC has trained over 650 teachers, administrators and garden coordinators, with the resulting gardens serving approximately 75,000 students every year.

The core of OAEC’s Program is the five-day residential summer training that offers an array of skills and techniques focused on the instructional school garden and its integration into multiple subject areas using experiential learning.  Through a combination of lecture, resource materials and hands-on sessions, we teach participants organic gardening, permaculture, nutrition, garden design, team building, community organizing, fundraising, art in the garden and more.

COST

Thanks to grant support we receive for the Program, the inclusive fee is $700 per participant. This covers food, lodging, materials, instruction, follow up support and training, and staff costs. The program is already deeply discounted, and we cannot offer additional scholarships. Full payment is due two weeks before the start of each session. OAEC accepts purchase orders and checks. We are happy to provide an invoice to your school or other entity upon request.

For further information about the program, please contact Vanessa Carter, School Garden Program Director at 707-874-1557, ext. 102 or vanessa@oaec.org.
