Garden Internships (6- and 9-Month Positions)
The Occidental Arts and Ecology Center (OAEC) offers two Internship positions in our 32 year old biointensive organic garden: A 9-month position from March 1 to December 1, and a 6-month position from May 1 to November 1. Interns work full days on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursday.
THESE POSITIONS ARE FILLED FOR 2008.
Prior gardening experience is helpful but not necessary. However, a desire to learn and a keen interest in hands-on gardening are essential. We are looking for motivated, self-starting people who can be comfortable occasionally working alone. Garden interns are involved in all aspects of gardening, including propagation and greenhouse work, watering, bed preparation, composting, transplanting, sowing, weeding, harvesting, seed saving and processing, and plant sale preparations. Physical stamina is a must. We work outside rain or shine!
To be considered for a garden internship, you MUST attend at least one Garden Volunteer Day at OAEC. Garden Volunteer Day is every Wednesday, from 10 am to 5 pm, with a vegetarian lunch at 12:30 pm. You need not stay all day. Please introduce yourself to the garden staff and let them know you are applying for an internship (But please do not “lobby” the garden staff regarding the internship.)
Resumes and cover letters must be submitted to the Garden Program supervisor, Michelle Vesser, by December 31st. Please indicate which position(s) you are applying for. Phone interviews are not possible.
