The public is invited to tour the Occidental Arts & Ecology Center on Saturday, July 19. This tour begins at 10 AM and will run approximately 1.5 hrs in duration. Tour participants will be introduced to the Center's organic gardens, which preserve thousands of varieties of rare and endangered food, medicinal, and ornamental plants. Sturdy shoes, brimmed hat or warm layers (depending on weather), and personal water bottles are recommended. A suggested donation of $10 per person is requested. Waterwitch is a semi-psychedelic/folk exploration of politics, dreams, and nature with trance beats and invocative pagan melodies. Folksinger Elizabeth Hummel (www.elizabethhummel.com) and electro-acoustic artist Brian Castillo are the writers and the heart of Waterwitch, with other musicians often collaborating.

The public is invited to tour the Occidental Arts & Ecology Center on Sunday, August 17. This three hour tour begins at 9:00 AM. This site tour will focus on the Permaculture aspects of OAEC’s gardens, wildlands and structures. “Permaculture” is a philosophy of living based in sustainable land use concepts and practices. Participants will be introduced to OAEC’s organic and bio-intensive gardens and heirloom seedsaving program, our watershed and wildland restoration work, and “natural” building methods.

One of the great joys of living in Northern California is that we can garden all year round, creating fall and winter gardens that rival the beauty, diversity and productivity of summer gardens. This is the time to put fall and winter seedlings into the ground while the soil is still warm! Choose from hundreds of varieties of heirloom brassicas, lettuces, salad greens, chards, leeks, and herbs as well as old-fashioned annual flowers. We'll have lots of ornamental and edible perennials too.

The Contemporary Issues Series is presented by Sonoma Country Day School to promote critical thinking about ideas of importance to the life of our community. Physicist, ecologist and activist Dr. Vandana Shiva will discuss the world food crisis and other critical issues of our day. This event is presented in partnership with Occidental Arts and Ecology Center and the International Forum on Globalization (IFG).Tickets are $20 in advance, $10 for Students and $25 at the door and include a wine reception and book signing after the talk.
